You Debate

On Thursday and Friday of Week 3, Eastmeadows Campus hosted the annual YouDebate competition. We welcomed students from Meadow Fair, Keysborough, and Ibrahim Dellal campuses, and our sister schools Amity College (Sydney), Pinnacle College (Adelaide), and Fountain College (Perth). On Thursday morning, 15 debating teams competed for 8 finals places, while 11 public speakers vied for one of three finals spots. After the finals spots had been announced, our students took the interstate visitors on an excursion to Eureka Tower and the South Bank precinct, finishing with dinner in the city.

On Friday morning, tensions were high as the finals were fiercely contested. Sirius College Eastmeadows A-Team and Fountain College were our grand finalists, with Fountain College just beating Eastmeadows A-Team by one point. Seray from Keysborough Campus won the public speaking competition.

The atmosphere throughout the competition was collegiate with students from every school cheering on their rivals. In spite of the fierce competition, many friendships were forged as students helped each other to perfect their debating and public speaking skills.

Preparing for Kokoda

On Saturday the 10th of November, teachers took part in their first hike to prepare for the Kokoda Trail Trek Expedition.

Teachers met at Werribee Gorge State Park at 7:30am and began the 10km circuit. With 500 million years of geological history, the Gorge was filled with gorgeous natural beauty and picturesque views. Teachers started at the Meikles Point Picnic Area and continued their trek through steep hills, high angle rocks, river sections and rock climbs.

On Thursday the 6th of December, the students completed their first walk at Kinglake West. They completed 13km walk around the Mason Falls Circuit. Students woke up bright and early to leave school at 6:30am. It was an intense day but the students did fantastically!
